Conditioning plays an increasingly more important role in today’s soccer, so if you ever want to become a pro, you’d best start working on your fitness and endurance levels from early on. Unlike popular belief, soccer conditioning drills are not just short-term, in that you can’t “forget” how to be fit like many states.

Indeed, if you stay off sports for a while and gain weight, or simply lose touch to your conditioning, you won’t be able to run for as long a time as before, your muscles will be weaker and you won’t have the same tonus. But you won’t have to start from scratch all over again, because once you’ve trained using soccer conditioning exercises before, it will be a lot easier to step up and get to that level of fitness again.

What’s the best way to do this? It depends on one’s constitution, but I will try to cover what I believe to be some of the best soccer conditioning drills, regardless of your build or natural fitness.

- Best Soccer Conditioning Drills - The Pine Tree Sprints

This soccer conditioning drill is called this way because you’re drawing a virtual pine tree on the floor with your sprints. It’s one of the most effective, all round exercises you could train with, because it works out both your burst sprints and your long sprints. Here’s how to do it:

Place 5 marks on the field, aligned perpendicularly from where you’re standing and make sure the distance between them is equal. So, the first mark could be at 10 feet, the second at 20, the third at 30, fourth at 40 and fifth at 50. Or you could tone down the distance between each a little. Now, stand on the line and jump, pulling your knees to your chest. Either have a friend give you an audio signal (blow a whistle, clap hands, etc) or give yourself the green light and start sprinting for the first mark as soon as you land on the ground.

When you reach the first mark, do a quick break and turn and sprint back to the initial line. Now break and turn and sprint to the second mark and back. Do the same with all marks and when you reach the last one, start coming down again, to the fourth and back, third and back, and so on. This works your conditioning in so many great ways…you’ll be practicing acceleration on sprints with the short runs between the first 2 marks, longer sprints when running for the 4th and 5th marks and you’ll also practice your breaking (mobility).

This is another great soccer drill that works all aspects of your conditioning. Here’s how it works. You start in one corner of the soccer pitch, running slowly in a 1/4 tempo along the length. You do so until the opposing corner, then pick up the pace a bit on the side of the pitch, running in a 2/4 tempo. When you reach the second length, gear up and run in a 3/4 tempo, close to sprinting. The last side of the pitch should be ran through at full sprint speed, then when you reach the initial starting corner, settle down to 1/4 again.

You need to breathe carefully during the 1/4 and 2/4 tempo areas, because you’ll need to save your energy for the other two sides of the pitch. Get a couple of these full court laps and you’ll soon notice an improvement in conditioning. If you can’t last for more than a couple of them, don’t worry. Just try to gradually increase the number of laps every week or so.

Minimum monthly credit card payments on the rise

It is estimated that more than 40% of Americans carry a revolving balance on at least one credit card. This is an enormous number, and it is caused primarily by the security people feel in making minimum monthly payments. When you charge money to your credit card, you are only required to make a small monthly payment to keep the debt from entering into collections, which means that a purchase made in 1995 might still be carried on a credit card in 2006.

Under pressure from the U. S. government, banks are increasing the minimum monthly payments. This can mean both good news and bad news for consumers, though it is supposed to be designed to assist cardholders with paying off debt.

Federal regulators say that by increasing minimum monthly payments, consumers will pay off their debts faster and spend far less in interest payments. In addition to the rise in monthly minimum payments, credit card companies will also have to include a Public Service warning on all bills stating that paying off debt faster will result in lower interest payments.

For consumers that count on low minimum payments this change might be devastating. It will make it more difficult (rather than less) to get out of debt, and many accounts may be entered into collections. For consumers who can afford the increase, however, they will find that they pay less in interest rates and get out of debt much faster.

This might also help consumers with their purchases. If you frugally determine your spending practices based on your budget, you’ll be less likely to purchase things for which you cannot afford the higher monthly payment. This will result in better spending practices and less debt.

To deal with this new increase, most financial institutions are allocating money that will help to cover defaulting cardholders. They are also cognizant of the fact that they might have to negotiate with cardholders to lower interest rates so that they can afford to pay off their debts. If you are concerned about affording the minimum payment, you are encouraged to call the financial institution to discuss your options.

How to Handle the Increase

Examine Your Budget. Take a careful look at what you can pay each month, and work around it. Spend less on eating out or entertainment until you can significantly lower the balance on your credit card(s).

Set Personal Limits. Consumers who are used to spending with credit cards may find it difficult to stop. SKIING OFF PISTE IN LA GRAVE?

Clear blue sky, crispy crystal snow, fresh air and lots of fun, all these make skiing a highly enjoyable and appreciated sport, that attracts thousands of tourists on the mountain slopes every year. Yet, some of them are looking not just for fun, but for adventure. These are the people who choose off-piste skiing, who challenge the mountain in a race full of adrenaline, running the risk of provoking an avalanche for the sake of enjoying a descent on an untouched slope. These are the risk takers that throw caution to the wind in favour of a good time, and many of them choose the infamous La Grave skiing area, situated in the Alps.

If you want to go skiing in La Grave, you’d better think twice for the sake of your own safety and wellbeing. You could be there all alone, with nothing but your skies and backpack, in the middle of a white ocean, and your life depends on all your skiing knowledge and experience, which in some cases, can be less than you think. The highest risk to produce an avalanche is when there are several layers of snow, some older than the others, with different levels of density. In such a case, if you change direction suddenly, you may cut the most recent layer of snow with your skis, and thus dislocate it. Consequently, never cross a slope from one side to the other, because you may dislocate disaster. Or when skiing at high speed on slopes with fresh snow, you can raise a powder snow avalanche that makes air unbreathable because of the fine snow crystals that fill the atmosphere. Sometimes a few simple precautions like these can save your life.

In order to feel safer on your off-piste skiing expedition, there are a few things that you need to know. Always check on the snow conditions beforehand. Go online, and make sure you look at a report for La Grave, which should be easy enough to find. Has it recently snowed? What is the risk of avalanche in the area? What was the local weather like in the last days? Get information on how warm the weather can get at noon for instance. Make sure there haven’t been strong winds that might have affected the snow stability on the slope where you want to go skiing. Open your eyes for cornices and cracks and listen to possible sounds of the snow mass whilst your out there. If you remain alert, you'll stand a better chance of avoiding disaster.

Avoid noise in areas with high avalanche risk. When trying to communicate with other members of your group, never shout if you’re far from them, because sound vibrations can cause inner breaks in the snow mass if already unstable. Make sure your transceivers are fully charged so that you may ask for help if in need. And last, but not least, wear colourful skiing clothes, avoid white, silver or gray equipment, that make you almost invisible by lack of contrast. Reds, or Oranges are probably the best colours to opt for, to give that contrast that could be life saving. Thus you’ll be more easily detectable on the slope, and in case you’re in an emergency situation, rescue teams can find you more quickly. You’ll be a speck of colour in the silver vastness of snow, identifiable from miles away to aid your rescue, and potentially save your life.

Ride the Wheel

It's a challenge to stay at the centre of the wheel of change. It's like riding the merry-go-round in a playground. The centre is the safest part to stay, with much less risk of being thrown off. Yet the centrifugal forces of our emotions threaten to send us to the edge as we struggle to maintain our grip of the centre. The longer we can stay there, the more laughter we experience in the face of adversity. I've been experiencing that too. Today was a bit of a challenge and I rode the ledge for a couple of hours. Having this perspective of existence that I've spoken of before, I'm finding it easier to find my way back to centre. Even so, I've also noticed that to edge away a bit from centre propels me into more action. There's a fine line there that must be negotiated. The dance of life.

Never Give Up

You know, I just responded to someone this evening and wrote that I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all know that saying. When times are hard and the situation seems hopeless, we usually turn a corner and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Looking at the situation, I fully saw this about a month or two ago and figured that the light at the end of the tunnel would've materialized by now. I mean, it's there, just not here yet. I still have more tunnel to go through. In the dark, I've noticed, the distance of the light is deceiving. Will I reach the opening today, tomorrow, next week, next month, or 2006? I don't know. Hanging on is really tough some days but I still refuse to give up.

But still we have semi-synthetic drugs, as well as drug that more or less approximate more natural composition. Since herbal supplements are made from a mixture of crude herbs reduced into powder or gel form, and later on packaged as tablets and capsules, there is a possibility that life-threatening or at least body chemistry-altering components are still present, thus the expression of concern from the medical community.

Yes. With the rising popularity of using and consuming anything herbal or organic is the proliferation of fake herbal supplements that threaten to endanger lives. If that’s the case, then why are herbal supplements given drug administration approvals? One way of ensuring the safety of the people is to have all candidate drugs, food, drinks, and dietary supplements registered with the proper authority. Otherwise, they would pose more risk with these things being sold in the black market for a hefty sum. We could ensure the quality and safety of herbal supplements if they get proper classification with the food and drug administration. (Of course, on occasion, Microsoft releases patches on other days - particularly if the problem to be fixed is deemed to be sufficiently troublesome.

IT'S AVAILABLE, SO NOW WHAT - Basically, you want to get the patches installed on your PC. "Not so fast," you may say - particularly if you are the one responsible for other PCs. You will want some assurance that the patches which are intended to protect your PC will not cause some program to malfunction. You may wish to install the patches on a test PC before you unleash them to your public. For most of you, however, the time it takes to perform such tests is not worth the added risk to which you put your PC while you wait to complete the tests. My advice is to install the patches and take the extra protection from potential shutdowns, total malfunctions, and possible loss of privacy for the risk that an application program may temporarily stop working.

SIMPLE IS GOOD - From within the Internet Explorer under Tools/Windows Update, you can choose to have critical patches from Microsoft automatically downloaded and installed at a time and day of the week of your choice. You can also choose to check daily at a particular time. You may choose to select Tuesday (or Wednesday in case you wanted Tuesday but were not sure of the time of day that the patches might be available). That should work for most patches because they will come on a Tuesday and will be available at any time on Wednesday. I prefer to check every day. If there are no patches, the test is fast. If there are patches, I get them that much sooner. That is simple and adds, I believe, the greatest level of operating system safety and stability.

YOU CHOOSE - You may do the patches automatically every day or one day per week. You may do the patches manually. Just choose to do the patches as soon as possible and practical.
